La magie fait peut-être partie de la vie quotidienne des habitants d'Amérique latine, comme le déclarait Manuel Garciá Marquez, mais elle se trouve aussi au Canada : c'est d'ailleurs elle qui motive la création d'Iris. Dans ce troisième album, Altars of Grief donne une réalité au concept de "prairie doom" avec un death/doom metal ancré dans le réel, lourd, glacial et très varié, mais qui comprend aussi une part de surnaturel grâce à l'apparition des violons. C'est un sublime tour de force !
